Artist Statement

Art is my beauty. Art is my resistance. Art is my voice.

As a child, I moved quietly through the world, often feeling unseen. While others passed by the smallest details, I lingered with them, the graceful curve of a petal, the stubborn resilience of a wildflower, the silent wisdom of animals, and the beauty tucked within ordinary moments. I learned early that wonder lives in what is overlooked. Art became the language I spoke when words could not carry what I felt.

My journey has been shaped by the resilience of an immigrant, the experience of carrying one world within me while learning to navigate another. Through change, uncertainty, and transformation, art remained a constant companion. It became a place of belonging, a bridge between memory and possibility.

As a Muslim woman who wears the hijab, I am deeply inspired by the idea that what is veiled often holds the greatest beauty. My work explores hidden resilience, quiet wonder, healing, identity, and human connection. The veil, both literal and symbolic, reminds me that the most meaningful truths are rarely found on the surface. Like roots beneath the earth or seeds waiting patiently beneath winter soil, much of what sustains us remains unseen.

Working across painting, photography, mixed media, jewelry, encaustic, mosaics, and other interdisciplinary forms, I weave together traditional techniques and contemporary perspectives. Nature is both my subject and my teacher. Flowers, bees, birds, butterflies, and botanical forms become visual metaphors for resilience, transformation, and interconnectedness. Through layers of color, texture, and material, I seek to uncover the extraordinary hidden within the ordinary and the sacred woven into everyday life.

Ultimately, my work is an invitation to pause, to notice, and to look beyond what is immediately visible. It is an invitation to recognize the hidden beauty in nature, the quiet strength within people, and the invisible threads that connect us to one another and to the living world around us. Art gave me a voice, and today I use that voice to celebrate the interconnectedness of life and contribute to a better world for people, animals, and nature alike.
